Our Commitment
At Tetrix, privacy isn't a feature—it's the foundation. We believe your words, your ideas, and your creative work belong to you. Our products are designed from the ground up to respect and protect your privacy.
Local-First Architecture
Scribe and all Tetrix applications are built with a local-first architecture. This means:
- Your documents are stored on your device first
- Core editing works fully offline without any network connection
- You maintain complete control over your data
- All synced content is end-to-end encrypted — our servers never see your plaintext
End-to-End Encryption
All document content in Scribe is end-to-end encrypted. Your writing is encrypted on your device before it ever leaves—both on disk and in the cloud. Only your devices hold the key.
- Documents are encrypted locally using authenticated encryption (ChaChaPoly)
- Cloud-synced content is encrypted before upload—our servers never see plaintext
- Your encryption key is stored in iCloud Keychain, synced securely across your Apple devices
- Even if our cloud database were breached, your documents remain unreadable
What We Collect
We collect minimal information necessary to provide our services:
- Account information: Email address, name, and authentication credentials when you create an account
- Subscription status: Your plan type to manage Pro feature access
- Analytics: Anonymous usage statistics to improve our products
- Crash reports: Technical information to fix bugs (no personal content)
Cloud Sync
When you sign in, your documents sync across your devices through our cloud backend. All content is end-to-end encrypted before upload—we never have access to your plaintext. Your encryption key syncs securely via iCloud Keychain.
AI Features and Data Processing
Scribe offers optional AI-powered features including smart suggestions, fact-checking, autocomplete, inline editing, and an AI writing agent. These features require sending some of your data to a third-party AI service for processing. AI features are disabled by default and require your explicit consent before any data is sent.
When you enable AI features, the following data may be sent:
- Document text: Portions of your document content for suggestions, fact-checking, and inline editing
- Cursor context: Text surrounding your cursor position for autocomplete predictions
- Conversation messages: Messages you send when using the AI writing agent
This data is processed by Groq, our third-party AI inference provider, through our secure backend (Convex). Groq processes your text to generate AI responses and does not use your data to train AI models. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No document content is permanently stored by Groq.
Some AI features (such as significance screening) may also use Apple's on-device Foundation Models when available, which process data entirely on your device with no network transmission.
You can disable AI data processing at any time in Settings > AI > Data Processing. When disabled, no document content is sent to any external AI service.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Apple: For on-device AI (Foundation Models), iCloud Keychain sync, and App Store distribution
- Clerk: For user authentication (email, Google, and Apple sign-in). Clerk processes your email address, name, and authentication credentials. Clerk Privacy Policy
- Groq: For AI inference (suggestions, completions, fact-checking, and agent features). Groq processes document text only when you have explicitly enabled AI features. Groq does not use your data to train models. Groq Privacy Policy
- Convex: For cloud sync, real-time collaboration, and secure routing of AI requests. All document content stored in Convex is end-to-end encrypted. Convex Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat: For subscription and in-app purchase management. RevenueCat processes your anonymous user identifier and purchase history. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
All third-party services are contractually required to protect your data and provide security standards equivalent to or exceeding our own.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data stored with us
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Enable or disable AI data processing at any time
- Disable analytics collection in app settings
